Just me in my hand made costume for the "End of an Era" fashion show in my secondary school at Saint Benedict's College in 2010. My theme was a warror viking style. Starting from the top, my helmet was made out of sinamay which is a organic material woven into a fabric, once it has been damped down with a wet cloth it will hold its shape. Added to the helmet was wire horns which have been covered in cling film, then tissue paper and finally paitned. In addition to that it has a fabric bandanam such as that to dante's inferno -shown in picture-
Next up wasmy chest plate, this was made with layers of newspaper, to give better definition i added string, such as that to the chronicles of riddick film, the necromongers. -shown in picture- i just added more colour to really show up on the catwalk and stage! There is also a T-shirt that already had a printed dragon design on the back of it, it was black and white, this seemed ok to work with this outfit and didnt over power and draw the viewers eye away from my own work. As you can see the chest plate also has them horns the same as the helmet, these proved to difficult when walking, however it still gave a great look that i was happy with. After those items it's the gauntlets and shin pads, i got this fabric free from dfs, csl and harveys i just went in asking if they had any old fabric swatches because they just get thrown out anyway, got a huge bag full from all 3 an i was stocked up for fabric for a long time. The method in which these were made is so simple, i let the sowing machine do all the work. On each item there had to be string attachments so that i could lace it up and create the best look. Nothing speical about my shoes i just wore my all black converse.
